In Telugu, the mill is called Gaanuga - it is a circular track dug into the earth. From what I've heard (never seen in action, only saw an empty track, so pardon the inaccuracies) In the centre is something like a pivot with a crusher attached. Or maybe the bullock is tied to the pivot with a long rope. The bullock is used to rotate the crusher which fits into the track which is filled with the oilseeds.
The monotonous rounds of the bullock in the gaanuga have given rise to an expression which connotes a boring, repetitive and thankless task. Is that what a ghani is, also?srahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03243944393796831559noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30980268.post-65528220679897038662007-09-24T21:44:00.000+05:302007-09-24T21:44:00.000+05:30SraWhen the discussion is mustard you know I canno...Sra
When the discussion is mustard you know I cannot stay away ;-) I saw your comment on one of the blogs about "Kachi Ghani" mustard oil.

Long back when I was a child, it was the small mill, unbranded mustard oil, where the oil was extracted on first press of the mustard called the "Kach Ghani" mustard oil.
